Amsterdam is one city that has our heart. From its bubbly ambience to its rich history…from its brightly coloured quirky tilted houses to its breathtaking countryside… Amsterdam is truly a travellers paradise. In today’s post we are sharing the Instagram spots in Amsterdam you must check out!
Damrak
Damrak is the heart of Amsterdam and undeniably the most picturesque spot… no doubt it’s our #1 spot you must check out. This is the best place to soak in some beautiful views of the quirky houses, boat rides on the canal and the vibe of this city. We recommend coming here during the day as well as night, be that to take pictures or even have a cute little picnic to enjoy yourself!
The Red Light District
Your Amsterdam trip is incomplete if you don’t visit this spot. The red light district is one of the most interesting parts of this city… visit at nighttime when its beautifully lit up and experience the ambience with sensual women luring you from behind glass windows… and if you’re game – don’t miss watching a live sex show! There are several guided tours of this part of the city and one we recommend taking because it educates you about the history of this place.
*Note : It is a very well guarded part of the city and it is ILLEGAL to take pictures of the women behind the glass windows.
Bloemenmarkt (aka Flower Market)
Who doesn’t love pretty flowers?! You must visit the flower market in Amsterdam… the brightly coloured tulips are breathtakingly beautiful We loved the range of flowers and exotic plants at this market…it smells divine and is a pure treat for the eyes and soul!
Jordaan
One of the best neighbourhoods in the city, Jordaan has so much to offer! We recommend taking a leisurely stroll around here and checking out the cafes and art galleries. You can also visit the Ann Frank house or take a canal boat ride. Our favourite thing here was the apple pie we tried at Winkel 43… it is the best we’ve ever tried!
Begijnhof
This is a peaceful oasis in the middle of this bustling city. It used to be a catholic nunnery which dates back to 14th century and houses a very beautiful courtyard and an old church. It is not as much of a secret spot as it must have been once, thanks to Instagram but still it is quite calming. There is no entry fee but if you’d like you can make a small donation at the church adjacent to the courtyard. This is one of the least talked about Instagram spots in Amsterdam, but one you must check out
Zaanse Schans
An Amsterdam trip is incomplete without visiting Zaanse Schans We made a day trip to check out the magnificent Windmills and the cheese factory. We visited De Kat, the one which make paints and got transported back in time. It was an amazing experience and on top of that the view from the platform above was just magnificent.
Volendam
If you haven’t biked in Amsterdam, have you even been to Amsterdam?! Well, we didn’t exactly bike in Amsterdam but we did do an awesome tour of the Dutch country side on two wheels in Volendam. Its a quaint little fishing village in Holland (one of their best known ones) and we highly recommend visiting this place. If you do plan on renting a bike to ride around this village, book one through Volendam Rent & Events.
