I think it is the flavour and the menthol aroma of mint leaves that makes this one of my absolute favourite drinks not just for a hot summer day, but even on those cold winter nights when I can use the same ingredients to make myself a cup of piping hot Mint Tea!
This recipe is caffeine-free and can be easily adapted to your taste, meaning that you can have it hot or cold; sweetened or unsweetened as well as with and without lemon.
Ingredients
- 1 ltr Hot Water
- 3 Black Tea bags
- Fresh Mint Leaves (you can also use dried mint – 2 tbsp)
- 2 tbsp Sugar or Honey (optional)
- Lemon juice (optional)
- Ice Cubes
Method
- In a pan bring the water to a boil and turn off the heat. Then pour it into a big jug.
- Add the black tea bags to the jug of hot water along with a few fresh mint leaves (or dry mint).
- Cover the jug and let the tea steep for about 10-12 minutes before you remove the tea bags.
- Next put the jug in the refrigerator to cool for a few minutes (if you want the Iced Mint Tea version).
- Strain the tea mixture into glasses so that you don’t have any soaked mint leaves in the glass.
- Stir in the sugar (preferably caster sugar) at this point and also add in the lemon juice along with some fresh mint leaves.
- Your Mint Tea is now ready to serve…add in a few ice cubes on top and drizzle some honey if you fancy!
