Discovering the Best of Galle: Our Three-Day Travel Diary

Discovering the Best of Galle: Our Three-Day Travel Diary

Sri Lanka is a tropical paradise that offers the perfect blend of natural beauty, exotic culture, and luxurious resorts. And if you’re looking for a place to unwind and relax, Galle is the perfect destination. We recently spent three days at the Radisson Blu Galle, formerly known as Amari Galle, and it was the perfect luxury resort vacation for us. So I thought why not share our 3 day Galle travel itinerary with you… I hope you enjoy discovering Galle with us!

We arrived at the resort early in the morning after a pre-booked transfer from the airport in Colombo (it was a very comfortable 2.5 hrs drive from the airport to our hotel). After a delicious breakfast, we got an early check-in and headed straight for the beach. The Radisson Blu Galle is a beachfront property with a small but secluded beach that offers the perfect setting for a dip in the ocean. We enjoyed a round of beers and a delicious chicken burger at the pool bar before heading out to explore the town.

Galle is a charming town that’s a short tuk-tuk ride away from the resort. Even though it was drizzling and overcast, we were awestruck by its beauty, especially as we watched one of the most spectacular sunsets from the Galle Fort walls. We roamed around the streets, marvelled at the architecture, shopped at local stores for some souvenirs, and ended the day at a cosy eatery. Trust me this is the best way of discovering galle

On Day Two, after a refreshing morning dip in the ocean, we had an amazing breakfast at the hotel. We tried the Sri Lankan breakfast staple, egg hoppers, and string hoppers with chicken curry and simply loved it. We spent the afternoon chilling by the pool and in the evening, around 4 pm, we headed towards the Dalawella beach (again a short 20 min tuk tuk ride). We headed straight to the Wijaya beach restaurant and had the most amazing pizzas and chilled coconut water while enjoying the sunset. One of the main attractions here is the Frog Rock – its right in the middle of Dalawella and Wijaya Beach. Now you can climb the rock, but I’d say please be careful as it might not be safe. We chose to just sit and admire the natural beauty without taking any risks

Next up we headed to the Dream Cabana Swing which was a short and pleasant 5-8 mins walk. I’m sure you’ve seen tons of pictures and videos of this dreamy swing on social media and let me tell you, they don’t do justice to the place! If you want to take pictures on the swing, there’s a small fee (I think it’s around 500 rupees), which I feel is a fair price Also, this is another beautiful spot to just lounge on a sunbed and catch a sunset. After spending an hour here, we headed back to the hotel and ended the day with a glass of wine, classic Sri Lankan rice curry with a side of live music playing in the background

On Day Three, we booked ourselves for a relaxing spa session at Radisson and in the afternoon we went to the nearby Hikkaduwa beach and got an opportunity to see turtles. We were back at the hotel just in time to spend the last evening strolling on the beach and marveling at yet another amazing sunset. We ordered in pizza and fries for dinner at the hotel.

Overall, our three days in Galle were a perfect blend of relaxation, exploration, and indulgence. If you’re looking for a place to unwind and soak in the tropical vibe, Galle is the perfect destination. The Radisson Blu Galle is a top-notch resort that offers the perfect luxury getaway, complete with stunning ocean views, top-notch amenities, and delicious food. We can’t wait to go back!
